Madrid

So this weekend CEA took us on another trip to an amazing Spainish city. I am of course talking about Madrid, the capital of Spain. While we were here, we did a lot of things despite factors like time and weather. When we arrived on Friday, it wasn’t the best of weather and things were very gloomy. After getting off my first high speed train ride, it was cold and rainy, and not many people wanted to be there. We didn’t let it bother us to much though, and we still saw as much of the city as we could. After arriving at the hotel which was within walking distance from the train station, CEA gave us some time to settle in to our rooms, then offered us a free tour around the city. Despite the bad weather, most people decided to come. Luckily for us, most of the tour was by bus so we didn’t have to walk around in the rain. On the tour we saw everything from the Royal Palace to Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. It was a great day even without the sun. That night the weather got so much better and we decided to check out some cool resturants around the city. We loved the food so much, we ended up going from resturant to resturant just trying different things. In fact, by the time we were done eating, it was already 2 in the morning. Our last stop that night, Chocolateria San Gines, might have been the best chocolate I’ve had in Spain and I would definetely recommend it. Even though it wasn’t quite the night we expected to have, it was still really fun.

Saturday’s weather was the complete opposite of Friday’s, and we were all relieved. It was a gorgeous day and we took full advantage of it. We started the day by walking around Retiro Park, which is the Central Park of Madrid. It was perfect and you could see that everyone was out enjoying the beautiful weather. After Retiro Park, we decided to check out Plaza Mayor, which is another place I would highly reccomend seeing. It is a huge square that is full of locals and tourist and the food there is great. After Plaza Mayor we walked around the Almudena Cathedral which is located right next to the Royal Palace. We ended the day by walking around the Prado Museum which is incr
edibly big but definitely worth your time. Unless you plan on spending all day there though, don’t expect to see everthing in there.
We ended our trip on Sunday by going to what I would describe as a farmer’s market type thing with little booths set up everywhere and great deals on a lot of useful things. It was a great way to end the trip and was glad I was able to expirience some local culture. Overall, the trip was another great one and I’m glad I was able to experience the capital of Spain. Hopefull I can come back to this awesome city and discover more great things about it.
