Casablanca & Cadiz

DSCN1050For our spring break in Europe, we weren’t sure what to do at first. There were so many options and we didn’t want to spend to much money. We also wanted to relax a little bit because of the long break we had, so we decided to take a cruise around the Mediterranean Sea! On our trip, we visited four amazing cities that I recommend everyone go to. Our first two cities were Casablanca and Cadiz, which were incredible. Our first city, Casablanca, was definitely very different from the other cities we’ve visited so far. When we got off the boat, it was so dirty and smelly, which we got passed quickly, but it was still very noticeable. Then, the cab drivers were awful in trying to get us to get in their car. They were relentless and it got very annoying at times. After we get out of the port, we find out we have to walk about 20 minutes to get to the world famous Hassan II Mosque. On our walk there, we saw what Casablanca was really like DSCN0945and not what the movie perceives it to be. It was a very poor looking area that was very dirty. Not saying it wasn’t a good walk, but it definitely wasn’t what we were expecting. Anyway, we finally get to the Mosque and it is incredible. It is huge and it’s right on the water and the design of the place is great. We enjoyed ourselves a lot there, and after we made our way to the old market area. Now, when I said Casablanca was very different then we expected  this is the big reason why. Walking through this market and obviously being American did not sit well with some people. We walked through a very poor part of the city, and we felt the most out of place that we could have. To see it first hand though was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone that likes that kind of experience  Just be prepared to get stared at if you don’t fit in right away.

DSCN1024The next city that we visited on our spring break was Cadiz, Spain, which was a great city with beautiful. It was definitely a beach town with lots of residents just laying out and enjoying sun. We went from everything from the Cadiz Cathedral and the Torre Tower. The city itself wasn’t that big, and those were the two main attractions. After we did that though, we made our way to the beach and enjoyed great views of the ocean. The beach was huge and those who didn’t want to hang out could walk for hours. After the beach, we enjoyed a few side streets and made our way back to the boat. Overall, both of these cities were incredible and although they might not be super touristy, they are beautiful and were really cool to see while we were here.
